Abstract
Peroxiredoxins (Prxs) are novel family of anti-oxidative proteins. They are induced by various stresses, and function as regulators of signal transduction and antioxidant enzyme. To elucidate involvement of Prx in the rat spinal cord following immobilization stress, immunohistochemistry for PrxIand III was performed in the spinal cord after immobilization stress for 6 hours. PrxI expression was increased in the gray matter of the spinal cord following immobilization stress in both young and adult rats. PrxI immunoreactive cells revealed morphologically characteristics of oligodendrocytes. Prx III expression was increased in the gray matter of the spinal cord in young rats of the immobilization stress. Prx III immunoreactive cells revealed morphologically characteristics of neurons. Taken together, PrxIand III expression was upregulated in neuroglial cells or neurons in the spinal cord following acute immobilization stress.
